One of my favorite ways to travel is by cruise. I have traveled on nearly 2 dozen trips through three different cruise lines: Royal Caribbean, Carnival & Disney Cruise Line and they have taken me on some incredible destinations throughout the world.
When looking for a cruise, we not only look at destinations but on board activities for the family. That is why we chose the Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas for our trip to the Mediterranean.
This ship is the second largest of the fleet and is packed full of great things do for people traveling with teens. If you are planning on taking a cruise on Harmony of the Seas or the upcoming Symphony of the Seas, you are in for a real treat.
The first thing you should know is that this ship is family-friendly. There will be plenty of activities on the Harmony of the Seas to keep the kids busy no matter what their age.
Having said that, it is not over-run with families, so if you are traveling without kids, you won’t feel the least bit out of place. Wondering what you will be able to do on board?
Top Family Activities on the Harmony of the Seas
The Ultimate Abyss
One of the activities on the Harmony of the Seas that is state of the art is the Ultimate Abyss dry slide.
This slide is not for the faint of heart. It is an 100-foot, 10-deck drop on a dry slide.
You will have to elevator to the top and then slide your way to the bottom.
It is a dual slide, so feel free to race your partner.
The Perfect Storm Waterslides
I would like to say that these slides were operational when we were on the ship, but they were not. We cruised after the maiden voyage, so they were still working out the kinks. I can imagine that they are pretty amazing!
One is for surfing and the other is for body boarding. It was tremendously fun. You don’t have to know what you are doing. An instructor will be there to guide you and stay with you the entire time. Kids will enjoy the body boarding even if they wipe out!
Zipline, Rock Climbing and Mini-golf
There are so many outdoor activities on the Harmony of the Seas that you will be sure to keep busy. Kids and adults alike will enjoy all the fun experiences on this ship.
This section of the ship is where the Ultimate Abyss ends and the fun begins. You’ll find casual eateries featuring things you might find on the boardwalk, hot dogs, sausages, burgers, fries and shakes along with a carousel.
Seriously, you feel like you are walking in the middle of a city park in this section of the ship. You will find trees, benches and small restaurants with outdoor seating!
The Fine Line was the BEST Show on the ship. I don’t want to give away too much, but it is one part dance, one part diving and 4 parts acrobatics. It is simply amazing. You will want to see it more than once.
The Illusionist before the ice skating show
Although the ice skating in “1887: A Journey in Time” was great, I was confused the entire show. It is about time traveling lovers, but made absolutely no sense to me. It was very avant-garde. I would suggest you go, only because the opening act is so fantastic.
Overall, we were pleased with the activities on the Harmony of the Seas. It is a great ship with plenty to keep you busy for an entire week!
